How adaptive are local wildlife?
Local plants and animals have become very adaptive to the long cycle of drought, said Luke Driver, P.h.D candidate at University of North Texas.
Historically, periodic and seasonal (summer) droughts are a common, natural, and reoccurring phenomenon in North Texas due to regional and global climate patterns. Aquatic organisms in this area are often adapted to seasonal and periodic drought conditions; by being either resistant to harsh conditions (e.g., high physiological tolerances, or seek/find temporary refuge) or being resilient following the drought.
Even though the drought is harming area wildlife in the short-term, when the drought fades and the rains return, life should flourish once again.
